Soundsmith designs and hand-builds its phono cartridges in Peekskill, New York, under founder and chief engineer Peter Ledermann. The house specialty is the moving-iron design: less moving mass than a typical moving coil, long service life, and — unusually in the cartridge world — designs that can be rebuilt rather than thrown away.
